Did you know that Louisiana was one of the leading states in the nation within the field of Teacher Preparation? Under the guidance of the Louisiana 's Blue Ribbon Commission on Teacher Quality the certifications for classroom teachers has been completely revamped and the four-year preparations have been completely redesigned. Now the LCTCS colleges are working with the Higher Education Teacher Preparation Community to create two-year programs that transfer smoothly into the four-year programs within the university colleges of education. In an effort to create a common "language" across the LCTCS, three years of listening and development have been invested in the writing of the LCTCS Glossary of Common Definitions: Edition One . It was adopted on May 14, 2003 by the LCTCS Board of Supervisors and should serve as a guide for both the academic and administritive work of the colleges as they work to create common reporting and assessment procedures.

Article VIII, Section V of Louisiana's Constitution requires that the Board of Regent, "formulate and make timely revision of a master plan for postsecondary education." In addition, Acts 241 of 1987 and 1360 or 1997 require that the Board of Regents, in cooperation with each system management board, and the chancellor and president of each pubic postsecondary institution, establish a mission for each pubic university system and for every institution within each system.

Louisiana 's Master Plan for Public Postsecondary Education: 2001establishes sweeping changes in the academic entrance requirements for all four-year, public postsecondary institutions throughout the state. These new requirements become effective in 2005. Students planning to attend these institutions are urged to familiarize themselves with the new entrance requirements. The two-year colleges of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System will remain the open door, gateway institutions up to and after 2005. Streamlined course and program transfer/ articulation are important to Louisiana college students of all ages. After ten years of participation by Louisiana 's pubic colleges and universities, the Louisiana Board of Regents has taken the lead in creating the state's first Electronic Articulation Matrix. The matrix features courses that can be transferred between and among Louisiana 's colleges and universities within all degree programs.

If transfer of courses, or programs, will be a part of your college planning, it would be wise to utilize this matrix to first check the transfer of courses. Then check with the college or university to which you wish to subsequently transfer for the applicability to those courses to the program(s) of your choice.
