Sullivan Named Chancellor of Delgado Community College

BATON ROUGE, La. - Today, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Board of Supervisors announced that Dr. Monty Sullivan will serve as the chancellor of Delgado Community College. Sullivan will assume his new duties in early May 2012.

The Delgado chancellor search committee was chaired by Woody Oge, member of the LCTCS Board of Supervisors. Oge praised the search committee for its efforts to help identify the most qualified candidate to lead Delgado.

"We are very pleased at the board's announcement naming Monty Sullivan as Delgado Community College Chancellor. Monty has been an invaluable leader as Executive Vice President of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System for the past two years. He is one of the great community college leaders in the United States today. He has always remained faithful to the community college mission and we are excited to have him serving as Chancellor at our largest college in the system," said Dr. Joe May President of the LCTCS.

"Delgado Community College has a proud history of touching the lives of New Orleanians," Sullivan said. "I cannot wait to meet everyone in the Delgado family. No matter who you are, how old you are, or where you're from, we promise you will find something new at Delgado. I love the work that we are doing, and I am honored and pleased to be selected for this position. Our best years are ahead of us."

Sullivan will assume responsibilities as the Delgado chancellor, filling the vacancy left by former chancellor Ron Wright who accepted a leadership post as Special Assistant to the President for LCTCS Centers of Excellence. Deborah Lea served as the acting chancellor since November of 2011 and will resume her position as Vice President of Academics at Delgado. The board also recognized Lea's excellent leadership.

Sullivan currently serves as Executive Vice President for the LCTCS. Prior to joining the LCTCS, Dr. Sullivan served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Services and Research for the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). In addition to his duties as Vice Chancellor, he also served a dual role as Interim President of Eastern Shore Community College. While in Virginia, he provided leadership for the Vice Presidents of Virginia's 23 community colleges advancing developmental education, student success, and data warehousing initiatives to accomplish the Chancellor's vision- Dateline 2009. Dr. Sullivan worked closely with stakeholders from across the Commonwealth to improve the transfer environment, including passage of the Two-year College Transfer Grant. He also provided leadership in the development of the Virginia Education Wizard.

Sullivan is one of the founding employees of Louisiana Delta Community College in 2001. He has also served as Director of the Center for Rural Development at Louisiana Tech University, Director of Continuing Education at Louisiana State University at Eunice, and Coordinator of the Mobile Automated Learning Lab (MALL) Project at Grambling State University. Dr. Sullivan has maintained a keen interest in the development of allied health programs especially in rural areas. He has been successful in generating external funding throughout his career through grants and contracts. His research and programmatic interests include adult education, electronic learning, allied health education, e-commerce, rural development, economic and community development, and student learning styles.
