Skillswatch September 2017

Membership Fees Paid by LCTCS - Enroll Now Once again the LCTCS System Office will pay the enrollment fee for all the Advisors that join and for the first 1,000 students that enroll as SkillsUSA members.  When you "join now" on the registration site, enter P.O. # 1718MEM and submit.  Keep their on-line invoice for your records.  We will pay SkillsUSA directly. As we continue toward our goal of increasing active membership and conference participation, please encourage your students to take advantage of what SkillsUSA offers, and to compete at the state and national conferences. Chapter Advisor Search The LCTCS Systems Office is providing a stipend for someone at each college to act as the Chapter Advisor for SkillsUSA activities.  The Chapter Advisor will be the single point of contact regarding SkillsUSA concerns and will provide information and assistance to local instructors and to state SkillsUSA staff.  The primary role of the Chapter Advisor is to coordinate activities within a college, and to increase the involvement of instructors, programs, and campuses. Chapter Advisor candidates should have a basic knowledge of the SkillsUSA program and the enthusiasm to recruit and collaborate with instructors at each of their campuses. Prior experience with SkillsUSA state and national conferences is a plus.  The stipend is $1,500 for an estimated average of 10 hours of SkillsUSA work per month for about 8 months. Please send an email to [email protected] with a brief description of your background, your contact information, and your reasons for wanting to act as the Chapter Advisor at your college.  The responses will be reviewed and forwarded with our recommendations to your Chancellor, who will make the final selection. 2018 National Conference Pin and T-shirt Design Challenge (Please do not confuse this Design Challenge with the state pin and T-shirt contests available at the National Leadership and Skills Conference.  This design challenge determines the pin and T-shirt to be used at the National Conference in June.  The deadline for this design challenge is Feb 5, 2018)   SkillsUSA is sponsoring a national conference pin and T-shirt design challenge that is open to all dues-paying student members of the organization. The winning designs will become the official pin or T-shirt for the 2018 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. Two designs will be selected, one for the pin and one for the T-shirt. All entries must be submitted to SkillsUSA exactly as directed in the rules at http://www.skillsusa.org/competitions/pin-design-challenge/, and all entries become the property of SkillsUSA once submitted. Only one entry/design per SkillsUSA member is permitted. They have been working over the last eight months to secure a manufacturer and construct a new, updated version of the former windbreaker. The jacket will be the same red as the blazer with the SkillsUSA logo. The jacket will also be less expensive than the red blazer to support the need for a less expensive official dress option for schools along with the Carhartt black jacket. SkillsUSA Posters As soon as they are selected, we will be sending the Chapter Advisors from each college a number of 16' x 24' promotional SkillsUSA posters to be placed at all of the appropriate campuses.
