JoAnna Booty, Northshore Technical Community College

Student's Background: Growing up, JoAnna's life revolved around softball, but in 2016, she had to come up with a different game plan. While playing softball for a college, she injured her back. After doing some research, JoAnna decided to continue her education and transfer to NTCC.

"Northshore Technical Community College was close to home and offered technical programs." After talking with NTCC faculty and staff, she chose to enroll in NTCC's Electrical Line Technician Program. "I love the outdoors and it is a program that leads to high wage careers. I fell in love with the program after just a few classes."

Credential Earned: JoAnna received a Level One NCCER Power Line Worker certification.

Outcome: JoAnna has broken the glass ceiling twice. In May of 2017, she became the first female to graduate from NTCC's Electrical Line Technician Program. Right before graduating, she secured a job with Washington St. Tammany Electric becoming its first female Apprentice Lineman.
