The Shreveport Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) was formed in 1925 and continues to work for the benefit of the commercial construction industry in Northwest Louisiana.
When Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) instituted its Construction Management associate degree program in fall of 2009, AGC Shreveport recognized an opportunity to support and partner with BPCC in the education and training of potential industry employees.
AGC assisted in forming the Construction Industry Advisory Committee to provide advice and direction for course requirement and curriculum development.
AGC and BPCC are also partners in a joint effort to train and employ skilled carpentry labor. There is a dire need to develop craft training that meets and exceeds industry standards while providing skilled professionals with increased earning potential and opportunities.
To fulfill that need, the partners designed an integrated a program wherein BPCC provides the classroom training component according to the curriculum established by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), while AGC member general contractors provide immediate employment and “on the job” training.
This partnership with NCCER, AGC, and BPCC began in the spring of 2015 and has produced 10 completers in the NCCER Core program in spring 2015, and 7 completers in the NCCER Carpentry level one in fall 2015.
Bossier Parish Community College and Associated General Contractors Shreveport are proud to work together to enhance the Louisiana economy and to provide a brighter future for the citizens of our state.
