As a leading financial institution, Capital One Bank has established itself as a true champion of Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC). Through a growing partnership with the BRCC Foundation, Capital One has become one of the college’s vital supporters.
Over the last year, Capital One has focused its support efforts on student recruitment and success in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Capital One Bank donated $25,000 to the BRCC Foundation for the establishment of need-based scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in STEM related majors at BRCC.
Capital One also provided equipment to the college’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering through a grant to support the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) initiative. Through this partnership, the college was able to host a Lego EV3 Robotics Workshop for area middle school girls interested in careers in the sciences. Participants in the program learned how to design, build, program, and operate robots.
“We are so fortunate to have Capital One Bank in our corner,” said Philip L. Smith, Jr., vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement at BRCC. “Their generosity makes it possible for students in our communities to enter and succeed in the high-demand, high-tech, and high-wage careers of tomorrow.”
As part of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System celebration of 50 Businesses in 50 Days, BRCC is proud to honor Capital One Bank as a true ally in the college’s commitment to student success.
