Delgado Community College (Delgado) workforce development's strategic partnership with General Electric (GE), and Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB) of New Orleans emphasizes the importance of Delgado becoming a leader in workforce development; by identifying opportunities to align and partner with stakeholders to address gaps and opportunities to develop a highly trained and skilled workforce.
Delgado has previously partnered with S&WB in development of a workforce training program for incumbent workers. Delgado continues to provide support to develop and implement a comprehensive S&WB career pathway strategy and training program to address workforce challenges.
In 2014, Delgado received a $1.5 million grant from the GE Foundation to provide the critical resources needed to continue its partnership with S&WB, and to expand the partnership to include the city's Network for Economic Opportunity.
The Network for Economic Opportunity is an initiative of the City of New Orleans founded to establish productive partnerships with anchor institutions, nonprofits, philanthropy and city agencies, with a goal to expand economic opportunity for residents and small minority-owned businesses.
S&WB employs approximately 1,050 employees; and will soon seek skilled workers to fill high wage, high demand positions in its facility maintenance operations division. The next phase of the partnership program will address SW&B's demand for workers to repair the city's aging infrastructure.
Thank you General Electric, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans for supporting Delgado Community College and its students!
