Thanks to Morgan Stanley, SOWELA Technical Community College (SOWELA) now has the ability to offer improved services to its veteran student population.
SOWELA launched its Veteran’s Center to assist in meeting the needs of former and current military personnel studying at the college.
Morgan Stanley is an American multinational financial services corporation headquartered in New York, with operations in 42 countries and employs 60,000 people. The Morgan Stanley Lake Charles Branch is one of many offices whose staff is committed to giving back to the community.
Morgan Stanley Lake Charles staff actively participates in many local organizations, including SOWELA. They have donated $10,000 to support SOWELA’s Veteran center. The company also handles all security transactions for outside donors to the SOWELA Foundation free-of-charge, ensuring that 100 percent of those gifts support students and the college.
The Veteran's Center is staffed with two student workers and a full-time counselor who assists in fulfilling veteran needs from enrollment through graduation.
The Center is equipped with furniture, equipment, and technology to facilitate independent or group study and peer networking. Veterans receive priority orientation and registration, referral services, GI Bill assistance, and financial aid support.
With the U.S. Army Fort Polk in close proximity to SOWELA and with approximately 150 veterans enrolled at the college, the center could not have become available at a more beneficial time.
