With a high demand in Acadiana for diesel mechanics, Republic Services is investing in its future workforce by partnering with South Louisiana Community College and the college’s Diesel-Powered Equipment Technology program at its T.H. Harris extension campus.
Republic Services is a national recycling and non-hazardous solid waste company with operations in Acadiana.
“Diesel mechanics are critical in our line of business,” said James Richard, general manager at Republic. “We are excited to partner with SLCC to promote the diesel mechanic program and encourage graduates to establish their careers with Republic.”
Republic recently donated one commercial front-end load truck to the program, located at the college’s T. H. Harris extension campus in Opelousas.
“This will allow hands-on experience for SLCC students on a piece of equipment they would work on regularly at our company,” Richard said.
