Delgado Community College recently received a grant of $185,558 from the Greater New Orleans Foundation, through the New Orleans Work Initiative, to implement the Hudson Thomas Program. The training program was designed and developed by Delgado’s Workforce Development Division and Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System.
The program focuses on competencies in reading, writing, and computer literacy as well as soft skills and career coaching. The primary purpose of the Hudson Thomas Program, a workforce training program, is to provide a foundation for career advancement. The program provides fundamental skills to incumbent GS 1-5 and WG equivalent employees that prepares them for upward mobility. Candidates selected for this program participate in a three month program to improve reading, writing, computer skills, and soft skills, supplemented by career coaching. Program participants are paired with a mentor.
“We plan to have at least 45 VA workers participate in the program, thanks to New Orleans Works (NOW),” said Stephanie A. Repasky, associate director of Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. “There will be a large number of new positions with the activation of our medical center, and we feel an obligation to prepare our existing workforce for these promotion opportunities.”
