Five Students Receive Medals
Baton Rouge, La — Twenty-Eight students from Louisiana’s Community and Technical Colleges competed in the annual SkillsUSA Post-secondary National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. The competition occurred from June 19 to June 23 and included representatives from Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC), Delgado Community College (Delgado), Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC), Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC), Northwest Louisiana Technical College (NWLTC), Nunez Community College (Nunez), SOWELA Technical Community College (SOWELA), and South Central Louisiana Technical College (SCL).
Three students won gold medals: Jessica Solis from CLTCC in Medical Math and Sky McMillian and David Sonnier in Television (Video) Production from SOWELA.
“We are proud of the effort displayed by our student competitors at the SkillsUSA national championships,” said Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. “This competition allows students to put into practice what they learn in our classrooms and labs. The categories and the programs we offer are aligned with statewide labor demands, and are at the core of what our colleges do every day, which is preparing students for the workforce and real-life experiences in a competitive environment.”
