Skills USA Louisiana PostsecondaryToday, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) announced a statewide scholarship agreement with SkillsUSA  Louisiana, Inc. – Secondary. The agreement calls for a $500 one-time scholarship for every SkillsUSA Louisiana Secondary member that graduates from a Louisiana high school and a $1,000 one-time scholarship for every Gold Medal winner to any LCTCS college, beginning with the high school graduating class of 2018. The scholarship offer will be valid for the fall semester following high school graduation only.


“We share the same core principles as SkillsUSA and we are honored to offer these students the opportunity to continue their education and participation in SkillsUSA at our colleges,” said Monty Sullivan, president LCTCS.  In a previous statement, Sullivan said, “We are committed to growing and improving our SkillsUSA efforts because we recognize the importance of career and technical education in the economy, the opportunities it provides our students and business partners, and the work ethic skills and character development that comes as a result of student participation.”


“The partnership between SkillsUSA Louisiana that the Louisiana and Technical College System offers for high school students enrolled in Career and Technical education, reinforces the values and mission of SkillsUSA,” said Larry Rabalais SkillsUSA Secondary executive director. “The LCTCS scholarship program rewards students for excellence and affords students relevant training in their career path.  We embrace the Louisiana and Technical College System for taking notice of the fine young men and young women who are members of SkillsUSA Louisiana as valuable to the workforce of Louisiana.”


In 2017, the Louisiana SkillsUSA Post-secondary association was recognized as a “Reaching New Heights Award” recipient for outstanding commitment and dedication to the growth and sustainability of SkillsUSA.  The state’s post-secondary membership grew from approximately 300 to more than 630 members.


SkillsUSA is one of the largest career and technical student organizations in the United States and a proven talent pipeline for career-ready employees. LCTCS is proud to support a student-driven organization like SkillsUSA that promotes individual achievement and ongoing community involvement.
