Sgt. Charles Allen is a recent graduate of Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) where he earned a certificate of technical studies in welding, and an industry-based certification in construction welding.
Allen, a 14-year U.S. Army veteran and automated logistics specialist, was one of a select number of soldiers chosen to participate in the new Cheniere Craft Development Program (CCDP). The program is a partnership between Cheniere Energy, Bechtel Corporation, Fort Polk, and CLTCC that prepare soldiers, who are near the end of their military service, for a civilian career in specialized welding. Welding is one of the most in demand and high paying careers in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast.
“Before this training, I thought I knew how to weld,” said Sgt. Allen. “It was a great learning experience. It was intense. I have a new outlook on what it takes to be a good welder. I am grateful to all for this head start in the civilian job market.”
Sgt. Allen successfully completed the four-month training and earned a paid apprenticeship in Port Arthur, TX.
