BATON ROUGE, LA. - Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) is offering a free drywall training class for flood victims this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at NTCC's Hammond Area Campus. In light of the recent historic flood impacting the greater part of south Louisiana, NTCC is offering training to assist in getting individuals the recovery skills they need to restore and rebuild homes damaged from the flood. "Central to the mission of our college is building communities through workforce training and education," said NTCC Chancellor, Dr. William Wainwright. "We are grateful for the support of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System to advance this most important recovery effort." While extensive planning efforts are underway for short and long-term recovery, immediate resources to train in the hardest hit areas are essential in providing families the independence and resilience needed to advance their own recovery. NTCC's free, non-credit courses in floating drywall, flooring installation, ceramic tile, and restoration serve as relevant immediate opportunities for residents to recover from the devastating impacts of the flood. "As the governor has announced unique recovery and construction efforts, these courses are designed to compliment and spur immediate engagement in the rebuilding process by providing direct support to our communities," said Wainwright. Other institutions in the community and technical college system are currently developing similar programs to offer in their service areas. Once developed, a complete list of programs and schedules will be announced.
